ANNUAL MEETING OF THE JUSTICES OF THE PEACE.
THE annual meeting of Justices of the Peaco was held at noon to-day. Prosont : Messrs Brett, Clark, Ireland, McMillan, O'Neill, Nathan, Mucfi'arlnne, Sharlaud, Beotham, Isaacs, Philips, Prime, Martelli, Tuylor, Cosgravo, Owen, Tisdall, Shea, and Wilson. Mr A. K. Taylor in tho chair.
MrNUTKS.—The minutes of tho last annual meetine were road and confinnod.
Chairman. -On the motion of Mr Cosgravo, seconded by Mr Prime Mr J. Mct'osh Clark was elected Chairman of the Court of Petty Sessions for the ensuing year.
Clerk.—On tho motion of Mr Ireland, seconded by Mr Mnrtelli, Mr Joseph Cunningham was re-appointed clerk of Petty Sessions at the same rate of salary.
Bailiff.—On the motion of Mr Isaacs, Mr Henry Richards was ro-appointod Bailiff.
Rota of Attendance.-It was also agreed that the rota of attendance be prepared iv tho game manner as last yo»r, and and printed and circulated among the Justices.
The Chairman was proposed, and Mr Isaacs seconded, ro letter respecting abolition of the Court, "That in the event of the Petty Sessions Court being abolished, this Court rospcclfully requests the Government to add to the salary of Mr Cunningham, as Clerk of the Police Court, the £50 paid to him as Clerk of the Petty Sessions, as he would still havo the other capacity to do the whole work, and in the opinion of tho Justices the combined salary is hardly adequate payment for Mr Cunningham's valuable services. — Carried unanimously.— It was then proposed by Mr McMillan, seconded by Mr Brett, and carried, " That the Chairman, Mr McMillan, aud Mr 0. B. Owen torm a deputation to wait on the Hon. Mr Whitaker iv regard to Mr Cunningham's salary.
