WATSE LANDS' BOARD.
The fortnightly meeting of the Waste Lands' Board was held this afternoon, there being present:—Messrs D. A. Tole (Crown Lands' Board), Joseph May, J. C. Firth, and W. P. Moat.
Museum Endowment.—A communication was received from the authorities at Wellington, stating in reply to tho application of the Council of the Auckland Institute'for an endowment that the matter will receive consideration before next session of Parliament,
Grant and Foster's Settlement.—A copy of the order in Council re the the sale of the To Aroha block to Messrs Grant and Foster was recicved. A telegraphic reply from the Hon. W. Rolleston to Messrs Grant and Foster's request for timber reserve, etc , was also read. It stated that the opinion of the Government was that present arrangements with the Lincolnshire delegates should stand as they are, and that the proposal to deal with the Manawaru reserve should remain in abeyance until the arrival of the settlers, when the question of school sites, timber reserves, etc., will be dealt with. In the meantime, the Government would not in any way deal with the reserve, and the matter of the bridges site would not be prejudiced. MOKAU.—Messrs Dignan and Armstrong applied, on behalf of Andrew Kelly, tor a lease of a block of 50,000 acres at Mokau for £25. The Chairmain explained that although the land at Mokau had become public property more than 25 years ago, nothing had been done with it in consequence of the opposition always shewn by the natives. In this case it was agreed to defer auy action until the Native Department had been communicated with.— lb. remainder of the business consht d j principally of applications for land.
