PROPOSED NEW BUILDINGS, VIC-TORIA-STREET.

Osr iho south side of Victoria-Btreet, between Albertrptreet and Hobson-street, there is a long line of wooden buildings standing on land the property of Admiral

* eymour and Lady Hobson. The land at prese.it ia held under levies, all of which will shortly tall through. It is proposed that a renewal of leases ior long terms shall be offered on condition that a particular class of buildings shall be erected in place of the present wooden structures. Mr Mahoney was entrusted with the task of preparing designs for the proposed buildings, and has already produced plans, which we have been courteously permitted to inspect. They provide for the erection of a very imposing row of buildings, which would be an ornament to the street, and would doubtless stimulate a desire for improvement in the architecture of the thoroughfare. The style is Italian, and combines uniformity with beauty of exterior. On the ground floor it is proposed to erect a row of shops divided by rusticated piers, with verandahs. Each tenement is lighted in front with three circular-headed windows, with fornaraontal pilasters, handsome cornices, and an entablature, the whole surmounted by a parapet with circular centre-panels for business Inscriptions. At the corner of Hobson-street and Victoria-street there will be a grand hotel.
