WHANGAROA PUBLIC MEETING.

A public meeting of the electors of Whangaroa riding was held in the schoolhouse on Friday evening, 3rd inst, Mr E. Davison in the chair. Mr Goulton, County Councillor, explained the business. He said he had seen at his first meeting of the Council that some of his brother Councillors representing this riding were not doing justice to the interests of the district, or tho electors they professed to serve. As Mr Anderson, to his mind, appeared to be hand - and - giove with the member, Mr Houston, whose interests was to serve the North, and the sooner steps were taken to demaud justice at the hands of the County Council for this district the better. If their Councillors would not act in good faith, it was high time they were ousted, and. men sent in their places, who would fight for their rights. A letter was read in the Council from Mr Williams, Chairman for Bay of Islands County Council, pointing out, as he thought, the best way of spending their money in opening up the roads | between the Bay and tbe North. In it he quite ignored the idea of spending any money on making or improving the roads leading to Whangaroa, and he (Mr Goulton) plainly saw that Whangaroa would be left out in the cold if not closely looked after, Mr Houston, Chairman of County Council, had asked him what were the exports and imports of Whangaroa: th's he was not in a position to tell him, but he knew that the exports exceeded that of Mongonui, and as Mr Ratcliffe, Custom House officer, was present, he might give them some information on that point. Mr A. P. Ratcliffe said that if Mr Houston would look at the Government Gazette for the last three quarters he would find that th« exports had been between ten and eleven thousand. Mr John D. Hay es said that the sooner this state of things was got rid of the better, as the money would soon be all spent, beforo they got anything done, and moved that Mr Anderson be requested to resign his seat in the Council; seconded by Mr Goulton. Mr J. C: Shepherd moved, as an amendment, that Mr Anderson and Mr Knee be asked to resign their seats in the Council, as they weienot representing the interests of the electors of this iiding. J. D. Hayes withdrew his motion and seconded the amendment, which the chairman put to the meeting and it was carried unanimously. Mr J. C. Shepherd moved that this meeting pledge itself to use all lawful efforts to get Whangaroa into a separate county: seconded by Mr George Tallertou aud carried. Mr Goulton moved that Messrs J. C. Shepherd, and J. D. Hayes, be appointed a deputation to wait upon Messrs Anderson and Knee, and lay before them the views of this meeting: seconded and carried. Mr J. C, Shepherd moved that thia meeting pledge itself to use all lawful efforts to get a public wharf for Whangaroa: seconded by Mr Corston and carried. After fixing next morning as the time for the deputation to wait upon Messrs Anderson and Knee, the meeting terminated with a vote ot thanks to the chairman. The deputation afterwards waited on the two members referred to. Mr Knee said he would take time to consider and give his reply to the deputation. Mr Anderson at lint said he would resign, but changed his mind and Baid he would not.
