OHINEMUTU, Wednesday,

The survey of the new township is progressing rapidly. Mr Mitchell, who was detained in Taupo on important Government business, waß here yesterday to arrange the boundaries, and Mr Edwards superintends the survey. It is expected the work will be finished by the end of the present month. Mr Gilbert Mair haa just made the final payment of £5,000 on account of Kangiaroa (No. 1) on Government account. The native title is extinguished over 100,000 acres. 'Ihe foundation-blocks for the Palace Hotel were laid to-day. There is likely to be a large competition for forty-acre farms outside the township.

GItEYMOUTII, Wednesday, FATAL ACCIDENT,

A fatal accident occurred this morning to Mr Robert McElroy, storekeeper, belonging to tbe Seventeen-Mile Beach. The deceased was driving sonic cattle ou the Beach near the Cobden punt, when oue of the bullocks escaped from tlie others. In endeavouring to head it, the deceased attempted to cross a small lagoon, when he slipped off hia horse and was drowned. Eh body was recovered in half-an-hour, but life Was extinct. An inquest was held before Mr H. A. Stratford, Coroner, when a verdict of "Accidental Death" was returned. The deceased was a native of Belfast, It tiland, and leaves a wife and six children.

WELLINGTON, this day. The Hinemoa arrived this morning fiom Opunake, with the witnesses in the murder case.

CHRISICHURCH, Wednesday,

LIGUKIAN BEES.

Mr T. Adams, Secretary to the Canter, bury Bee Keepers' Association, went aboard tho" Rangitikei, on Tuesday, and had an interview with Mr Chaplin, who lad brought out a quantity of Ligurian bees for the Association. He learned that all died during the passage, from dysentery. The last expired about three weeks before the end of the voyage. Mr Chaplin had four hives and two tiueens, all Ligurians. The Captain rendered Mr Chaplin all the assistance in hia power, but no efforts on their part could rescue them from disease.

At Akaroa, Mrs Scarborough, wife of a prominent settler, has been committed for trial at tbo Supreme Court for aiding and abetting her niece in throwing boiling water over William H. Rossiner. Tho Government have agreed to close all the public offices in Canterbury on December 16th, being the anniversary of the establishment of the province. There was an imenonse attendance at Cole's Circus yesterday, admittedly the best circus ever seen here.
