The stewards were not satisfied with the manner in which-Mata ran in the Cup race, and as He won the Royal Park Stakes at a canter in less time than ever before, they called upon Vallance for an explanation. The "Argus" of the 9th Bays:=" The suspicions as. to the running of Mata duripg the Spring Meeting lias met with prompt treatment nt the hands of the stewards. The following notice waa posted at the office of the.Olub yesterday:—The stewards having considered the running of the horse Mata in the Royal Park Stakes on the 4th November, 1880, have decided that the jockey Ray shall be disqualified from riding or training any horse, and that the horse Mata shnll be disqualified from running upon the Flemington Racecourse."
