(Before B. C. Barstow, Esq., E.M.) A GOLDEN TEMPTATION. Kirohi Kipu, a native, was charged with stealing thirty sovereigns from the cutter liangatiraou the 11th instant. Mr Pardy conducted, and Mr Brown interpreted. The prisoner denied all knowledge of the robbery. Tlie prisoner, it appeared, went on the vessel and had an opportunity of seeing the captain go to his box for money. Shortly after the prisoner gare something to a Maori boy who waß alongside with a dingy,' and both left for shore. Tbe captain preBently found that his box had been opened and thirty sovereigns taken therefrom. The captain went ashore in search of prisoner, and, on finding him, charged him with stealing the money, Prisoner, who appeared somewhat taken aback, confessed that hehad taken three sovereigns, but no more, and, if allowed time, he would pay the money. It was afterwards discovered that prisoner had been spending freely, and had exposed a number of sovereigns. On the application of Mr Pardy, the hearing of the case was remanded until the 15th inst. LANGUAGE AT EPSOM. James "Wheeler was charged under the Vagrant Act with usiug obscene and offensive language in the vicinity of Epsom, on the 4th inst. On the application of Mr Tyler, with' the consent of Mr Tole, this case was struck out, having been amicably arranged between the parties. This was all the business.
