Volunteer Intelligence.
The monthly inspection parade of the Victoria, No 3, Hohson, and Scottish Companies—comprising the .Auckland Rifle Battalion—took place at Ihe Drill-ahed yeaterday evening, under tho supervision of Major Withers. The attendance of the three former companies was highly' sat'ißfactory. The following officers were liaaent: —Majors Derrom and I&orrow, Captains Dig nan, Mahon, and Home, Ad.utapt Clifton, and Lieutenants Robinson, Sldnnf*, Connolly, Hitchens, and Self/ AUhaiSwie of the inspection Major Withers ,rc^d a rather voluminous, correspondence from the Defence Office touching upon Volunteer regulations, capitation, priztffiring, &c. The battalion was subsequently taken over by Major Derrom, who exercised'itin various field revolutions preparatory to the Review to he held at Ellerslie on the 9th Nov. next. The No 3 Company made its first appearance npon this occasion in their new head dress, viz., white helmets with silver ornaments which were much admired as presenting a smart military appearance. They aro similar to those adopted in the Prussian service, and being of local matiu-' facture reflect great credit upon the establishments of Messrs Fenton and Teutenher'g, and will doubtless bo found to be,yory > comfortable during the summer months,: being of a light description, and much cooler than the dark helmets, which absorb tho heat. Wo understand that Major Withers has acceded to the wishes of the deputation of officers, in expressing his willingness to take command at the forthcoming review, which has given much satisfaction, and has requested the officers of the various corps to meet him on Thursday evening next at 8 o'clock, for the purpose of completing arrangements in that behalf. It is the intention" of tho Victoria and N 0.3 Companies to attend divine service at St. Paul's Church on next Sunday morning, and they may perhaps be joined by other companies.
