TIIK amended Property Assessment Schedules arc now being issued in Auckland. 'J ho now forms were published in a " Gazetto" of the 14th instant, in the form of a proclamation by James Prendcrgast, administrator of the Government of the colony, actting forth that certain forms of statement of rail and personal property were presciihed by the " Property Assessment Act 1879," and -whereas by the Act of last session the Goveruor-in- Council is empowered from time to time to prescribe the form in which any statement of property shall bo furnished, the form in which such statements shall be mudc shall be in accordance with the schedule apponded. Provided that whero any person ha*, prior to the 15th instant, furnished any statement under the Act of 1870, he shall not be required to furnish any further Htntcmcut except in such manner and to such extent as may be required by law. The schedule of assessment for the year ending the 31st March contains the form of a statement which may be sent Iree by post to the Deputy Commissioner, aud must be sent not later than the 25th Oct., on pain of liability to pay a line of £100 and to be assessed and charged treble duty. The property holder is required to set out the value of freehold property cither in the aggregato or each valuo poparatcly, then to civo a general statement of his freehold property, showing its locality and area, and the same with regard to leasehold. He U next required to set out his personal property, which includes all property of whatever nature not comprised in the delinition ot real property. The definition is "all'other property belonging to me, including debts owing to me (at their estimated value, mortgages, liens, bills of sale, annuities, debentures, or other securities for money, household furniture, jewellery, plate, works of art, live Btock of all kiuds, produce, merchandise, utock-in-trade, plant, machinery, cash, and everything else I possess, except vessels, agricultural implements in actual uee, life insurance policies, shares in public companies, and any other property exempt from taxation under the above Act. From the gross total of this he is to deduct existing mortgages on the real property stated above, and other debts and liabilities owing to him for which he claims exemption an 1 not included in the previous statement as to mortgages. Then having set down the net value he will j..u.i -c.-.00, ij.o fined exemption, and finally to declare that the statement is true. Trustees and agents of persons temporarily or permanently absent from the colony ore required to render statements of the properties for which they are trustees or agents.
