THE ELECTION.—BLACK MAIL.
(To the Editor.)
Snt,— Yesterday I was waited upon by one of the agents of the "Herald," for an advertisement, but as I had inserted it in your paper for two months, and as your paper has so large a circulation, it was not necessary to put it in the "Herald" also. I therefore declined that gentleman's kiiyl application. This morning when I got to Newmarket Station a gentlemen said, " Why has tho «' Herald " ignored you ? I thought you had retired." I said I had not, nor would I. When I got to town, I met another gentleman connected with the " Herald," and asked him why such a stab in the dark was given, me, as I intended putting in a long address to-morrow morning. He immediately said it was bacauso I did not give them an advertisement as other candidates did. I said it was a very mean contemptible transaction, and instead of making that the means of increasing the hiuiness o#the " Herald." I think it will he tho means of considerably rodnciug it. How the "Herald" must have fallen from "a lofty eßtate, to stoop to such mean tricks.-lam&c, . James P. Kino. . Candidate for City Council, and no sur , Jreuder.' : '
