THE FOOTBALL TEAM.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Your morning contemporary seems to have very little circumspection in the selection of its correspondents, judging from the report which appears in this morning's edition under the non de plume of "Kickist," which now makes tho third effusion that has appeared from the same author, who is very well known to be a prominent member of the North Shore Club, who sails under soubriquet of tbo " Brigand," and who, after malingering all through the season began to practice whon he heard a Wellington team was coming up, and then finding lie bad no chanco of playing, sends a report to tho Wyndham-street weathercock that he retired in favour of his brother. There is no doubt that good fair criticism is wholesome— given at the proper time from one who understands what he is writing about; but I think that you will agree with me, that even supposing "Kickist's" remarks wero given by such a person, that the only effect they can have now, is to show our opponents tho weak spots in our team, and .deliberately insult certain members of tho team to whom be has a well-known antipathy. I was under the impression that the team had been finally decided upon, and cannot see bis object in naming a team, unless it is to induce the change of one or two good men in order to give his personal chums a chance of playing ; and if falling about tho field is a qualification, they certainly should be picked, to play, as it affords some amusement to onlookers to note tbe agile (?) manner in which they recover themselves. In conclusion I would remind "Kickist" that it ill becomes a member of tho selection committee to turn reporter, in order to indulge his personal spite.—l am, &c, Football.
