BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTION.
A SPECIAL meeting of the Board of Education was held this morDing for the purpose of receiving the voting papers from the vaiious School Committees, and declaring the result of the poll for the electionof three members to the Board. The retiring candidates were Dr Campbell, Mr F. L. Prime, Mr S. Luke (old members), and Mr David Goldie. There were present at the nieetiing :—Messrs J. May (chair), F. L. Prime, W. P. Moat, S. Luke, Col. Haultain, and the Mayor. The returns having been made out it was found that 114 school committees had voted, that 338 votes had been recorded, that four committees had given shbrt votes, and that from various causes the validity of the votes received Henderson's. Mill, Onchunga, 'farm, and Stokes Point were doubtful, while those from Taiuauga and Hokiauga could not 13c accepted. Tlie numbers, therefore, stood thus :— Dr. Campbell 112 Mr Luke ... ... 97 Mr Prime 77 Mr Goldie 52 Eventually all the other papers except those from Hokianga ami Tauranga were opened, and they were found to increase the figures inthe following way : — Dr. Campbell 11G Mr Luke 100 Mr Prime 78 Mr Goldie ... ... ... ... 55 The Tapu returns were accepted as valid. This was all the business.
