It has transpired that Moonlito, the bushranger, was in the Paramatta lunatic asylum for six months in 1871, having been transferred to that institution from the Maitlaad gaol, where he was undergoing a sentence of 18 mouth's imprisonment. It is supposed that he took the name of Moonlito from a craft of that name, with which he wan engaged smuggling for some time on the coast of New Zealaud. When asked his religion at the Darlinghurst gaol he said ho was christened in the Church of England, but that now he was of no religion.

Upon the successful acclimatisation of salmon at Mahuraugi our correspondent writes : " This district has lately had the honour of a visit from tho colebrated natural historian, Mr G. Johnstone, His object in coming here just now was connected with practical science. He came, as we understand, authorised by the Acclimatisation Society to teßt the Mahurangi waters as to the existence of salmon in them. At tho request of Mr Palmer and the Key 11. McKinueyu, large Dumber of youngsalmonwere seat to the district some years ago by Mr Whitakcr, and that they still exist is now proved beyond question. Mr Johnstone succeeded with the rod and fly in_ rising hundreds of young salmon, but, being an old disciple of Isaac Walton's, he bad skill enough to hook only just what he wanted, namely, one or two specimens, which he takes with him to-day to Auckland. Those Mr Johnstone, with his accustomedurbanity, will no doubt be happy to show all interested in the matter. Mr Jonhstoue's experiments have created quite a furore in the district, and we expect Warkworth soon to' be crowded with lovers of the gentle art. There is everything to tempt them, excellent hotel accommodation, beautiful scenery, charming waters, and plenty of fish,"
