Legislative Council.
The Legislative Council sat only twenty minutes. The business was mostly formal, the appointment of committees, &c. On the motion of Col. Whitmore, seconded by Mr Richmond, Capt. Baillie was re-appointed Chairman of Committees. In reply to Sir Dillon Bell, Col. Whitmore said the printed return of the Education Reserves will be laid on the table next week.
The Colonial Secretary gave notice to introduce the Cure of Drunkards Bill on Tuesday.
Sir Dillon Bell complained that the Lower House Kepoiting Debates Committee had, after the close of last session, interdicted members from correcting proofs of " Hansard."
Sir W. Fitzherbert said the committee had exceeded its powers, and he would see that it should not occur again. The Council adjourned at 2.50. SIR GEORGE GREY'S ELECTION FOR CHRISTCHURCH. It is reported on reliable authority that the Hon. Mr Richardson has been advised that the election of Sir George Grey for Christchutch is illegal, and Mr Richardson will in due course petition against his election.
