The number of unemployed is rapidly increaaiug. Men are pouring in from the harvest, and considerable distress is felt. A meeting will be held to-morrow for the purpose of calling on the County Council and Road Boards to relieve the distress by prosecuting public works. The Borough Council is unable to do anything, being stumped for cash till the rates come it. A German named Schweder was sent to gaol for seven days for sporting a fellowlodger's best clothing. He pleaded that he borrowed them to look respectable. Three blankets were stolen from the Immigration Barracks on Saturday. Petty thefts of firewood and fowls are becoming unpleasantly numerous.
