NEW RAILWAY TIME-TABLE.

A MOST important alteration has been made in the railway time-table. The new table comes into operation to-morrow (February Ist). The alteration aims at the more rapid and effective working of the line, involving an increase of speed to 20 miles per hour between. Auckland and Mercer, and 25 miles per hour beyond. The trip to Waikato is to be run in about an hour less time, allowing the traveller twenty minutes stay at Ohaupo; formerly the second train left Hamilton before the first from Auckland arrived. In order to keep good time delay caused by shunting at any station will be made up for by the travelling at top speed,' thus allowing no time to stop for old cows on the line. The change is a step nearer the rapid evolutions on the home railways, and is calculated to give the highest satisfaction to the whole of the travelling public. The following list shows the chief alterations :— From Auckland to Onehunga: The former 9.15 train will leave at 9.10 ; the 11.5 at 11 ; the 2 o'clock train is discontinued to Onshunga; the 3.35 leaves at 3.10 ; the 4.15 train will take passengers to Onehunga in future; the 5.20 will leave at 5.30; on Saturdays a train will leave at 1 p m.; Ellerslie is to be a flag-station, only the 7 a.m. and the 4.15 p.m. trains stoppingpassengers must inform the guard if they wish any other train to stop. From Onehunga.—An extra train leaves at 7.10, for the benefit of \yoiking men; the 2 o'clock train is to run direct to Auckland ; at Te Papapa two trains will not stop, on account of the hurried nature of the running—these will be, the 4.15 from Auckland, and 4.49 from Onehunga. The main line officials will also have to look alive. There is no particular alteration o draw attention to beyond the fact of more speedy running, the trains from Auckland arriving earlier at most of the stations, while from Waikato the trains are generally later, leaving Ohaupo at 6.50 a.m. and 1.20 p.m. instead of at 6.25 and 12 noon. Notwithstanding the fact of leaving later, the Waikato morning train arrives in Auckland earlier than before, viz., at 10 minutes to 1 instead of 10 past 1, while the night train is 20 minutes later. A daily goods and cattle train runs between Auckland and Ohaupo, particulars of which may be obtained from the station-masters. The o-oods train from Mercer hitherto arriving at 9.10 is left out, and the passenger craiu from Mercer is quickened, so as to arrive in Auckland at 9.30, not quite so convenient for school children, but the best arrangement possible to be made. The time-table appears to have been prepared so as to meet the requirements of traffic and the convenience of the public, and evidences great care on the part of the general manager to do justice to all parts of the line.
