LONDON, January 13. The barque Schiehallioi), from Auckland to London, was lost off the Isle of Wight last night. There are no particulars.

LONDON, January 13. The Schiehallion weut ashore in the English Channel, oIF the Isle of Wight. The vessel has become a total wreck. The cargo is washing ashore.

The Schiehallion left here on the 21st September. Passengers — Thos. Smith, Susan Smith, Win. Taylor, G, Chapman, Cordelia Chapman, George F. Chapman, Mabel Chapman, Mary Storey, Harley Storey, Harry Storey, Ethel Storey, Clara Storey, Kate Storey.

The following particulars are from the Star of September IStli : —"Messrs Shaw, Savill & Go's, barque Schiehallion cleared at the Customs this afternoon for London, and she will, if possible, sail from her anchorage to-night. The vessel has been

a long time in port, bat takes away a full cargo of New Zealand ami South Sea Island produce, and n number of passengers. The barque Spirit of the IDawn is scarcely well away yet, and it is, therefore, expected that there will be a keen contest between the two vessels on the run home. Much interest is beiug taken in the expected race. The following is the value of the cargo : — Kauri gum, £8,815; copra, £3,200; pearl shell, £1,450 ; candlenuts, £70 ; ivorymits, £5 ; cotton, £1,76S ; cocoanut oil, £650; cotton seed, £20; wool, £1,928 ; manganese, £400 ; tallow, £1,293 ; miscellaneous, £45, Total value of cargo, £19,644. The following is a list of the shippers by the barque, with their shimpmeuts : 200 cases kauri gum, 63 bales cotton, 123 bags cottonseed, 146 casks cocoanut oil, 2 cases effects, 1 case curios, 146 tons copra, 2\ tons candlenuts, 147- cases pearl shell.—Owen and Graham. 8 |bags ivory-nuts, 41 tons copra, 22 casks tallow, 57 cases gum, 3 tons and 51 bags candleuuts.—Cruickshauk and Co. 31 cases pearl shell, Henderson and Macfarlane ; 159 cases gum, J. Heed and Co.; 1 case, J. A. Douglas; 6 packages personal eifects, Kinross and Co. ; 291 cases gum, A. Stewart ; 10 bales wool, National Mortgage Agency Company, 350 cases gum, italph and Co. ; 646 cases gum, 21 casks tallow, 8 bales wool, Hull, ]un., and Co.; 41 cases gum, 5 bales wool, J. Scarrott, 100 tons manganese, Grant and Morton ; 34 casks tallow and 80 bales wool, Graham and Co. ; 52 casks tallow, J. Allender ; 409 cases gum, L. D. Nathan. INSUKANCES. New Zealand £7,700 National (partly re-insured) .. 6,350 South British 1,500 Victoria 300 Colonial 265 Total } £16,115 Amongst the passengers by the barque was a Mrs Chapman, formerly of Onehunga. it will he remembered that this woman left her husband, and, with a man named Massey, engaged passages by the Schiehallion, going under the name of Mr and Mrs Smith. Prior to the departure of the vessel, Massey A\as arrested on a charge of stealing property belonging to Mr Chapman, and the vessel, with Mrs Chapman on board, sailed on her unfortunate voyage before the case had been decided.
