NO MINATION FOR MATAURA.
PFew persons were present at the nomination. Mr Kinross said ho believed the election would be dec Wed on the land question, and insinuated that his opponent was a land monopolist ana a Conservative candidate. He (Mr Kinross) advocated the land being held by small holders, female suffrage, polling days to be holidays, and opposed denominational education. A show of hands resulted: Five for Kinross, and four for Shanks. The poll tiikes place on January 15th. For the row at the Government cottages Grant ■was sentenced to three months hard labour, Reid to one month, and Murray was dismissed ■with a caution. Chas. Lindsay, for using indecent language on an excursion train ou the Ist January, was fined £5.
