INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET MATCH.

I AUCKLAND C.C. V. TARANAKI 3 TEAM. f The match between the Auckland Cricket | Club and tlic representative team from f Taranaki commenced on the Domain ground yesterday. The weather was beautifully fine, and us there was a good attendance during the day, the sceue was a very pleasant and animated one. Colbeck, the captain of the Auckland team, ami Davief, captain of the Taranaki men, tossed for choice, with the result that Taranaki went into the field, and Auckland to the wickets. Davies placed his lield as follows :—Nortliwood, long-stop ; Harrison, wicket-keeper ; Cunningham, long-slip ; Sarten, point, also bowler; George Bayly, long-field-ott" and long-on ; l\iddiford, loug-field-on nnd cover-point; Adams, coverpoint; Davies, short-slip, also bowler ; Bewley, long-leg ; Cleary, short-leg, also bowler; F. Bayly, slip and bowler. Wood and Blundcn took their places at the wickets,and the former played the first over from Cleary, placing the last ball very neatly in slips for two. Three byes followed, and then Bluudeu commenced his score by putting the ball' nicely to slip for ihiee. Several singles followed.aud Blunden drove oue of Sartcn's balls to the extremity of the ground, and four were run. This he followed up by a splendid hit to long-leg for 5, and 20 r>ow appeared on the telegraph board. Eight singles were then run, and a double made the total without, the loss of any wickets 30. The fielding of the Taranaki men, which at first had been very loose, now commenced to pull together, and the slip and long-leg distinguished themselves very frequently. Runs were coming in steadily, when unfortunately for himseifjWood got his leg before the wicket, and was given out by the umpire. Telegraph board, 37-1-20. Wood brought up liis score by some remarkably good batting, his hits being clean and welljudged. Klingender took his place, but the first ball from tfarten took his stumps. Telegraph board, 37-2-0. Whitford succeeded Klingender, and* began to bat carefully, but very surely, and 40 soon appeared. The bowling was now changed, Sarten relieving Cleary at the Southern end, and Bayley taking Sarten's place. Several good drives brought up 50 on the telegraph board, and Whitford, who had been batting remarkably well, was clean bowled by Bayly. Telegraph board, 51-3-6. Lankham' then took his place at the wickets, and played his first over very carefully. He then made several nice cuts, and then put the ball well away to long-on for four. Telegraph board, 60-3-G. In trying a short run, Blunden wa3 run out, Lankham not waving responded to his challenge. Telegraph board, 60-4-19. Bl linden's batting was tvery careful, and he did not give a chance during the whole of the innings. Marsden followed, but a shooter from Bayly lowered his "timbers." Telegraph board, 60-5-9. Grierson succeeded him, and drove oue of his'first balls over the ditch for six. Several singles were run, and the bowling was again changed, Davies relieving Sarten. Lankhain signalised the change by a fine drive to long-on for 4, but Grierson was run out immediately afterwards. Telegraph board, 87-6-13. Grierson played a good innings, and made several beautiful drives. Colbeck took his place, and 90 soon appeared. He was bowled after a short stay at the wickets. His runs were put together by a good display of cricket. Telegraph board 98-7-5. Cameron, the next man, started with n, magnificent hit for two, and was then clean bowled. His pla.^was taken by Coates. Laukham also succumbed to shooter, and Philson succeeded him. ' Coates got one over the ditoh for fife, and was then run out, Philson carrying his bat. After the adjournment for luncheon, Auckland took the field, the men beiag placed as follows :—Colbeck, short-leg ; Coates, cover-point both sides ; Klingender, long-on third man ; Blunden, long-leg and long-off; Marsden, long-slip ; Philson, longleg and long-off; Grierson, long-on and third man ; Wood, bowler and short-slip ; Whitifoidypoint; Cameron, wicket-keeper.; Lankham, bowler and short-slip. Harrison and Bayley commenced batting for Taranaki to the bowling of Wood and Lankham. Both were quickly dispose I of, Harrison being beautifully cauyht at point by Whitford. Biddiford followed and was clean bowled after getting 2. G. Bayley and Adam 3 now ■made a stand at the wickets, getting several ' ;good hits in succession. Adams obtained four from a fine drive, and Bayly followed it up by another four. Telegraph board 20-3-2. Wood bowled Adams cleau with a .shooter. Telegragh boaid 28-4-4. Bewley took his place, and runs came .rapidly, 30 soon showing on the board. After playing fine innings for 29, Bayly caught Klingender. Taranaki in the second innings were quickly disposed of for 37. Bewley got ne good hit for five, and Davies a drive for lour. The others wore all singles, with the exception of one three and one double, and several singles.
