Should the present Mayor be put in nomination, there will be a close contest between Vantier and Stuart. The County Council's contested election created a great amount of interest yesterday, especially in Meanee Riding, where there were four candidates for one seat. The Patea Agricultural Show was held yesterday, visitors being present from Wellington, Waitara, Manawatu, and all along the Coast to Taranaki. It was about an average Show, there being fewer entries but improvements in several classes of stock over last year. The horse show was good, the cattle medium, and sheep excellent. - r
