FIRE AT HOLDSHIP'S.
ABOUT half-past eleven last night Constable Dyer, who was on duty in Qneen-street, was accosted by a labourer named Adam Cuningham, who told him that there was a curious smell outside Holdsbip's. The con - stable went with Cuningham to the mill in question, and discovered that a fire had broken out underneath the flooring where the planing machine is fixed, and within seven feet of the furnace. The constable asked Cuningham to run over to the Thames Hotel and bring two buckets of water, which he did. The constable then threw the water •on the fire, which had, even by that time, burnt two of the b&arns about four inches deep. There were also a considerable quantity of shavings on fire, which were extinguished at the same time. The constable examined the: place' where the fire originated, but could ;fitt_d rnothing to accouut for it.',l. He. is.of. opinion that it must have been caused by a spark falling amongst the shavings, which are within three feet of the place in question, Mr Holdship's mill is uninsured? '■'■,
