The people of Auckland will, we are sure, join us in offering hearty congratulations to Mr Vesey Stewart upon the prosperous voyage and safe arrival of the Lady Jocelyn, with the second contingent of Katikati settlers. The new-comers differ altogether from the immigrants who usually landon our shores. There are no vague searchers for employment or genteel paupers amongst them.§ They are, on the contrary, nearly all men of substance, as may be guessed from the fact that they will enrich the country to the extent of one hundred thousand pounds. These are the kind of settlers we want, more especially as a large majority of them seem to be practical farmers who will domuch to advauce the real work of colonization. Mr Vesey Stewart thoroughly understands the work he has undertaken. So far, the Katikati settlement has been an undeniable success, reflecting great credit on its promoter and on the energy of those who have joined him. The new blood now introduced will no>doubt do much to invigorate it, and will also enhance the value and importance, not only of the block itself, but of the surrounding country. We wish our new friends every success, and sincerely hope that they may find in their Antipodean home the health, wealth, and" prosperity that their enterprise deserves.
