ARRIVAL OF THE DUNELM

She anchored at tha powder ground, for the purpose or uiacharging her powder, and will come up the harbour immediately after gettine it out The Dtraelm left London on the loth, one day oefore tho Schiehallion. which vessel arrived hero on Tuesday. Fine weather and favourable winds were experienced for some time after leaving. The Equator was crossed on the 13th Apriljand the meridian of the Cape passed on May 17th. Tasmania was sighted on Juno 16th, and the Three Kings at noon on the 25th June, Strong westerly gales from the westward were experienced in running down the eastings. Some of these were extremely severe, and accompanied with heavy squalls and high sea. The force of the gales may bo bettor understood from the fact that the top-gallant bulwark, on both sides, and the bulwarks around the stern were earned away. The standard of steering gear wi;s also smashed. Heavy weather was experienced, down the Coast, consisting mainly of »outhwesterly and westerly gales. The Dunolm comes into port in remarkably fine conditiop, notwithstanding the weather experienced. Captain Rails, from this port to London. From this it appears that the City beat the Famenoth by three days. During the passage, Mra Halls presenter! the genial captain with another addit:on to their family, in the form of a fine girl. The following is the report:-"The ship City of Auckland, commanded by Captain Kalis, part owner, left Auckland on January let, 1378. Experienced light variable airs until passing tho East Cape ; from thence moderate S.W. winds to lat. 18.00 south, and long. 11.8 west, when tho wind veered to the eastward for seven days, and took us down into 63.00 south lat., when we got moderate west winds to the Horn, which we rounded on January 27th, with a strong westerly wind, which took us a little past the Falkland Islands; from thence to the Equator light variable winds. Crossedthe Equator on the 3rd of March, 62 days out; from thence to 7.03 north, light variable airs, wheretwepicked up the N.M. trades, which proved to be moderate, and took us'into 25' north and id' west; from 'hence until passing the Western Islands, had moderate weather. After passing the Islands encountered a severe gale from the eastward, which veered round to the northward, and blew with hurricane- violence; the ship lying for seven houra with the lea-rail under water; blew away the lower main-topsail. The hurricane lasted three day 3, commencing at S.E., and veering round eastward to north ; from thence to port, which waa reached on April 3rd, moderate weather, Landed all passengers in perfect health." At the date on which this letter was written, i.e. on April |25th, the City of Auckland had all her cargo out, but the Famenoth had not finished discharging. It was expected that both vessels would sail again for this port about the same time.
