AN OFFICIAL GRIEVANCE.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star). Sir,—ln every probability there will be an interesting and important a debate during the ensuing session as has been heard in the House. The cause is a very simple and seemingly insignificent one, viz., that of a Government official not having received tho full amount of salary voted by the House for the office he held. Were the matter a more personal or party affair it might prove interesting enough as thing 3 go, but such are as mere trifles compared.to the important principles concerned, 'ihe unfortunate official might, perhaps, have had to content himself by sneaking of his complaint to his personal friends; but fortunately the circumstance came to the knowledge of a certain Atickland member, whoshallbe nameless, and whodevoutly thanked nrovidence for the information that had reached him. His abilities and tenacity of purpose are too well known to admit a doubt about the sterling way in which the matter will be brought before the House. Although pretty well acquainted with the particulars of the case, I prefer not burdening my present letter with them. The circumstance is the leading topic ot conversation among a certain circle and no doubt will shortly become the talk of the town, but rather than that a cock ana bull tale should, be astir instead of the facts of the case r should such happen-I will, by your leave, give your readers the benefit of the facts of the case. Our representatives may vote money foolishly. We have them to look to. But it is a horse of a very different colour when a vote of money docs not flow in its entirety in its legitimate channel. It is a point of the highest importance, and one in which a self-governing and intelligent people ore particularly interested.—Yours, &c, litus.
