The Warden notiiiies that application has been made for a considerable extension of area in the Moanatairi Company's ground up to and including the Dauntless and Monday Morning ground. The New Morning Star have discovered some 300 feet of drives in several directions, of which no person seemed to be aware when the workings were drained. The manager goes to work on the old Just-in-Time reef Avith good indications in face, and Gill's discovery in the old Golden Calf will be left on the boundary of the New Morning Star in a few week's working. An inquest was held yesterday on the body of Louisa Clark, found dead in the river yesterday morning. A verdict of " Found Drowned" was returned. Deceased was a dressmaker, and had bad health. She recently suffered from fainting fits, and it is supposed fell into the river during a fit. She was last seen alive on Sunday night in church. CHEISTCHURCII, this day. LOAN INVESTMENT COMPANY. At a meeting of shareholders in the Loan and Investment Company of New Zealand yesterday, it was resolved to accept the proposal of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand to purchase the business and securities of the first named Company for £1,000 in addition to the amount of the securities and the accrued interest. OPERA COMPANY. The Italian Opera Company opened to a crowded house last night with II Trovatore. The performance was a great success. Both papers speak highly of the various artists.
