GRAHAMSTOWN, this day. Georges Moanatairi tribute obtained 25 ozs from a crushing of 20 tons. SHAREMARKET. Moanatairi, £8 ; Alburnia, £5 7s Gd to £5 10s; Piako 15s 9d. CALEDONIAN. Stoping is being vigorously carried on, and this morning about five pounds of specimens were obtained.
COROMANDEL, this day.
Harbour View.—The leader is nearly two feet wide, of good rich-looking stone, which falls to pieces on being touched. The manager lias now prepared a paddock for the reception of quartz, as all stone will now be saved. A rise is now bein<_, r put up on the junction of the Harbour View and mullocky bodies. Althougli nothing has been seen during the week, the manager hopes to strike gold at any moment. Royal Oak.—Some more good stone was obtained from this mine. The crushing gave 117 ozs.
Anchor: The crushing from 14 tons stuff yielded 444 ozs gold. The Bright Smile starts crushing tomorrow.
The Diamond,with mottled kauri, leaves for Auckland to-day.

The following tenders have been received for Motueka bridge contract : —Accepted, Mr Britain, Auckland, £5,150; declined Watson and Co, Auckland, £5,704 ; Stock, Christchurch, £5,076 ; Blair and Watson, Dunedin, £6,600; Goodall, Auckland, £6,959; Molley and Bronnan, Nelson, £7,757 ; Cameron, Auckland, £7,%0; Gibberton, Nelson, £9,586".
In a private letter to a cricketer here Mr John Conway, of the Victoria cricketers, says : —Everything towards playing in New Zealand is getting on satisfactorily. Their idea is to play only at the four principal cities unless time should enable them to take a small town or two en ponte from one place to another. After playing at Dunedin, Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington they purpose challenging the strength of the whole colony to play at Christchurch, as the final match. Mr Sweet is to write to the dill'erent places to secure their compliance. Mr Conway will start in advance of the eleven, about three weeks, so as to have ample time to arrange all preliminaries.

AN UNNATURAL CRIME.
Samuel Meeshaui, a well-to-do citizen, having considerable interest in a large business firm here, was brought up this morning charged with attempting to commit rape on one of his daughters, about 13 years of age. He was remanded till tomorrow.

Monday. CHARGE OF RAPE AGAIN ST GEORGE
PROUDFOOT.
Gearge Proudfoot's case still continues to occupy the time of the Police Court, and as it progresses attracts considerable notice ia Dunedin. Dr. Murphy was the first medical man who examined the girl, but to-day he admitted that or Thursday morning, acting under instructions frem Mr Mackay, Davia Proudfoot's partner, he offered the father of the prosecutrix £200 as hush-money. This Avas after he knew criminal pioceedings had been commenced.

LICENSING PETITION.
A deputation of clergy and laity headed by Archdeacon Stock, presen-tedla petition to the Licensing Ben«h, praying that nonewpublicaus' licenses should be issued in the city. The Resident Magistrate for a long time declined to receive the petition, but as the other two justices considered it might be received, the petition was placed in the hands of the clerk of tho Court. It was signed by 2,700 adults of the city. The Inspector of Police incidentally mentioned there were +4 public houses in Wellington proper, more in proportion to the population than in any other town in New Zealand,
