THE MACANDREW TESTIMONIAL.
It is anticipated that Mr Macandrew's testimonial will reach about £1000.
The only new features in Mrs Reid's trial for manslaughter of her servant, were Judge Johnston's remarks in laying down the law. He said that even supposing that for ;t considerable time there was sufficient power on the part of the accused to remove herself from her mistress's control, yet when she arrived at a condition when it was difficult for her to exercise that power, if the mistress then committed any acts of commission or omission which accelerated tlie girl's death, she was then criminally liable. The Judge insisted on the Crown Prosecutor putting this view to the jury. Mrs Brooks modified her evidence so far as to admit that Mrs Reid merely said she would give £.100, rather than it should become a Court case over the affair. » RAILWAY TARIFF. The Chamber of Commerce convened a meeting this afternoon to consider the railway tariff, but only the promoters of the meeting attended.
