CITY COUNCIL ACCOUNTS.

(To the Editor jof the Star).

Sir,— Referring to the calumnious article published in your newspaper last evening, I have only to contradict the statement made therein, reflecting on me, and to notify the fact that the asperuions emanate from persons who have their own end and purposes to serve.—l am. &0., F. Brodib. [We do not know* and it is altogether

foreign tofour purpose to inquire, what pro' portion of blame in connection with the statements made in the accountants' reports may be chargable upon Mr Brodie, or any individual officer of the Council. The Council, and not its officers, is responsible to the burgesses for the conduct of affairs. We simply take those reports as they stand, and assert that unless their conclusions are capable of being completely disproved, very serious blame is chargable somewhere. It is for the Council to discover where, and institute measures of reform. It would have been well for Mr Brodie, if he elects from among all the officers of the Council to champion the cause of the city accounts, to have been a little more explicit, and have shewn in what respect the conclusions of the accountants are false and calumnious, and wherein their interested motives consist.—Ed. E.S.]
