Drowning at Whangaroa.
[BY TELEGRAPH]
.RUSSELL.
(From our own Correspondent.) This day. The lona, from the North, Captain Farquhar, reports the drowing of Mr Gibbs, storekeeper at the Kaeo, Whangaroa. Whilst crossing the Whangaroa harbour, Captain Farquhar observed something drifting like a boat bottom up with two persons on it. He at once despatched a boat, but before it could reach the spot one person disappeared, the other, a boy of 12 years of age was taken off by steamer's boat in a very exhausted state. It appears that Mr Gibbs left the Kaeo with boat load of gum nnd shingles, and that the weather being bad, the boat capsized.
