AyouDg American lady writes that she has enjoyed tho privilege of taking a stroll with the poet Tennyson, and incidentally mentions that 'it seriously affected the romance of the situation when he paused during the walk to scratch his back against a gate post.' It grieves us to have to add our conviction that tho young American lady lied.
The members of the Hope of Parnell Templar Lodge will hold an open meeting in the Wesleyan chapel, to-night. We call special attention to Mrs Mitchell's annual concert which will take place tomorrow evening in the Choral Hall. The programme appears in this evening' 3 issuo, and possesses attractions of a high order. We trust Mrs Mitchell, our eminenc vocalist who is ever ready to aid with her talents every good cause, will be recognised by a full audience. TVe notico that Miss Edger, Mr Skinner, the band of the Choral Society, and the leading members thereof will assist in making this concert a splendid success. The first part will consist of select passages from the " Creation," and the second part will embrace a very chcioe selection from English ballad minstrelsy.
' Messrs E. and H. Isaacs sale of shipchandlery at Williams and Co.'s store was continued out to-day and will go on tomorrow. The bidding is very good.
