Else"wttkee wo publishcablegrams conveying the chief items of news received by the Suez mail. The most prominent feature in the telegrams is an outrage of the most diabolical character, which cannot bo read without a sickening feeling of abhorrence. A curious fact in connection with the discovery of the perpetrator of this outrage is the use of trained bloodhounds, which have frequently been suggested in this city for the pursuit of fugitive criminals, and might have been advantageously employed in the search for Winiata. Tho scrutiny applied to the Queen's new title, and the pressure from without which has compelled the Disraeli Cabinet to modify the notice proclaiming an Imperial reign, indicate the general unpopularity of the measure. The wool sales, which above all the other intelligence most; largely affect this colony, show a serious fall of 1-Jd to 2d perlb in the price of that staple. Tho decline of the past few months represents many thousands of pounds cash loss to New Zealand. The cablegrams to-day remind us rather forcibly of the heavy unreproductive tax which the link between Australia and IN ew Zealand has levied upon newspapers. Today's despatches alone, from Australia, cost the Star £1 Gs., but the ancient penny secures to every reader the full benefit, and no generous advertiser offers an advance upon the price of his column.
