HASTINGS.

(From our own Correspondent).

March 21 1876.

In my last I promised to let you know the result of the Bullion's last crushing, but though a director and several shareholders are resident here, the manager has instructions to give them no information. (Query, who is managing director ?) I did not know the result until two days after, when I saw by the Thames Advertiser, that 55 tons were crushed for 38 ozs. This is a great disappointment, as the stone showed gold freely, right through, and also when crushing, the appearance of the plates fully justified the opinion that it was worth at least two ozs. The manager haa since had instructions to reduce the hands, and only keep on as many as were necessary to put up rise to the surface, as there was great difficulty in working, in consequence of the powder smoke hanging in the workings. I am informed this morning that he has made a further reduction in the men, and intends to crush what Btuff is now to hand. These proceedings are strange, and the strangest part is, that one or two take all the responsibility without consulting the remainder. I believe

thereis every probability of the BharehoHAM I calling a special General Meeting, at an? I rate it ia mooted just now. Mr. Buckland v here to-day, with the intention of arranging 1 all matters in connection with the Great Extended Mine, and we may expect that I ■ mine will immediately commence crushinc I lately visited the Panama, and find the men are getting a nice paddock of dirt. I believe they will have a trial crushing very soon. *
