WELLINGTON.

v (From our own Correspondent.) This day. Contractors on Strike. There is an astonishing kick up heretoday. AH the men working on the reclamation contract have knocked off. There are all sorts of stories afloat about the affair, some of them not j reflecting any great glory upon the contractor's sureties, who are said to be hard nails. At any rate the contractor seems to have been entirely in the hands of his sureties, as it is they who always drew the money on account of the work performed. Another view of the matter is taken however. It is stated that the' contract as a whole was taken too low, but itbat portions of it, such as the cea wall of (piles and the first part of th'a filling, would g^y, while the bulk of the work to be done yet will not pay at \ all. The circumstances are, the talk of the town, because a great many men are employed on the work, and the contractor is well known as a good natnred and nob very wide-awake old man. \\
