Mr J. C. Brown, in announcing himself for Lawrence, goes in for federation and separation. Strong efforts are being made to get Mr Bastings to opposehim. Railway Accident. The evening paper published in Inveroargil, contains an account of an accident on the Southland railway. James Laurie, engine driver, as the train neared Invercargil, leaned outside the engine to see if all was clear, when his head came in contact wj.th the timber platform. He was injured very severely but not fatally.

Splendid Shooting. There was splendid shooting at the Association's matches yesterday, by McKenzie-of Waikari, who in the extra match made 56 out of a possible 60 at 800, 400, and 500 yards.
