(From our own Correspondent.) v • This day. The New Steamer.— Railway Exten-
sion. . The Ringarooma was inspected by a large number of persons yesterday. She made the passage from the Bluff in thirteen hours ten m Th^Awakino and Waitaki, Oamara,railway lines will be opened to-day (Saturday). Trains will be run on both lines.
Fire Brigade. The new Fire Brigade consists of thirty members. The Council vote for the Brigades maintenance £50 a year. Overture from the Church of England. The Anglican Synod by the casting vote of the President, negatived Archdeacon Edwards' motion in favour of an overture to the Presbyterian Church With a view to the better observance of the last days of the two churches. Mr W J Smith, • formerly of the Auckland "and Mercer Railway, has been apI pointed manager of the Otago railways, in the Oumaru district.
