PRESBYTERIAN CEMETERY.

A preliminary meeting of persons interested in planting and otherwise improving the Presbyterian Cemetery, was held vestercbiy afternoon at the office of Mr Alexander, solicitor, Wyndham Chambers. It had been convened by circular, issued to thirty or forty persons considered likely to take a part in such a movement. Rev. Mr. Bruce was voted to tbe chair, and explained the circumstances of the Cemetery, and what efforts had been previously made with the same object in view. He called on Mr G. M. Reed to state the business of the present meeting. Mr Reed explained that having heard a general expression of regret among Presbyterians at the neglected condition of the Cemetery, and a strong desire expressed that something should be done in the matter, he bad taken upon himself to issue circulars invitiDg a preliminary meeting on the subject Those present then entered into a conventional discussion of the business, unanimously commending tbe object.contemplated. Mr. T Macky. as one of the trustees, having stated the position of the trdst, and exp'ained that the Crown grant of the land had never been taken out, it wa« resolved, on the motion of Mr. Sibbin, that he be instructed to obtain the title at the cost of the first proceeds of the present movement. After considerable discussion it was moved by Mr. Reed, seconded by Mr. Winks, and resolved, "That in the opinion of this meeting the sum of one hundred pounds at least, should be forthwith raised by subscrip'ion, towards tbe improvement of tbe Presbyterian Cemetery, and that Mr. Anderson be requested to prepare a plan for its judicious expenditure" It was gpnerallv regarded as judicious that for the fulnre there should be a small cemetery fee chaiged for interments so as to provide for keep ng the grounds when once put in order. On the motion of Mr. Peacocke, seconded by Mr. W. Baftray, it was resolved "That a committee consisting of tbe trustees of the ground, the ministers, with Messrs T. Macky, J. Winks, W. Rattrav, G. Sibbin, A. Brock, J Alexander, G. M. Reed and the mover be formed, with power to add to their number, to carry out Ihe objects of the first resolution, and that Mr. Alexander act as Secretary and Treasurer to such committee — On the motion of Pev Mr Macnicol seconded by Mr. Brock, it was also resolved " That a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Peed, Peacocke, Macky and the Secretary be appointed to prepare a list of persons to be called on for subscriptions, and to wait on Mr. Anderson " It was also arranged that an address to Presbyterians on tbe subject should be prepared and distributed in the pews of the various Presbyterian churches on Sunday next. A subscription list was then opened and liberally subscribed by everyone present, and confidence was generally expressed that a cordial and cheerful response would be given by every Presbyterian in tbe district. The meeting then adjourned for a week.
