ARRIVAL OF THE STAR OF THE SOUTH DISABLED.

The Star of the South arrived in port early this morning', having had to put back, after getting 680 miles on her voyage to Levuka, in consequence of breaking- the shaft of her propeller. Captain Palmer reports that he.had fine weather after leaving the Tamaki, on Thursday, the 19th uJt. All went well till the! following Sunday, when, without any warning, the shaft of the propeller broke short off the stern pipe, leaving the vessel helpless for steaming pur poses. There was a hoad wind for Levuku at the tv.ag. and the captain wisely determined to r^ Q back to Auckland under canvass. This fle gy having fine weather all the way back, arriving at seven o'clock this morning. The. Star 'anchored off Wyryard pier for a couple of hours slid landed her mails and passengers, after -which she went down to Kohimarama to put out her cattle. Of the horned cattle, 12 out of 75 had. died, but none of the sheep The shaft wnl bo repaired at once, and the steamer most probably will be ready to leave again in about four days.
