COROMANDEL.

The Gold Cases.
Edward Thomas, formerly of the Thames Gold Mining Company, and now of the Star and Garter Hotel, Coromandel, was charged with a breach of the Quartz Crushing Act, on two indictments.
Inspector Bullen prosecuted. The information was laid by Sergeant Egan, and the principal witness was John Henry Evans.
The first case reaulted in a conviction, and a fine of 2001, or in default four months" imprisonment. In the second case a conviction also followed, and the defendant was fined £200/ or in default six weeks imprisonment, the [sentences to be cumulative.
The defendant said he could pay the fines, and was remanded. He ia in enstody now in the lock-up.
The witness Evans has been charged with a similar offence, and pleaded hot guilty. The cate was proved, and he was sentenced to pay £50, or in default two months' imprisonment. Costs, £9. The Union Beach. The Union Beach mine has been jumped by Macgregor, the same individual who was picked up in a nude state on Manaia Beach a short time back, suffering from delirium tremens. . (From a correspondent.) •; This day. The Union Beach Jumping:- ~ There is great indignation relative to the reported jumping of the Beach ground. The names of persons mentioned. are in high official capacity. The rumour presents an aggravated feature of treachery on the part of trustees under the native title.
