GRAHAMSTOWN.
(From our own Correspondent.) This day
against Mr- Walter Williamson-
At the Police Court to-day a trumped up charge of larceny was brought against Walter Williamson by a fellow named Graves, who, for some time past has existed in a state of semi-intoxication. He did not appear in support of the charge, having been advised by Mr Tyler that he he had no evidence in support of the charge, and would render himself liable for malicious prosecution. The accusation was that Williamson stole a pocket-book of the value of ss. Inspector Bullen said the prosecuto*3had been to him several times with ;a lot of incoherent statements. He -would take no action in the matter, aud was surprised when he learned that the information had been laid and the summons issued by the police, for theservice. The man was evidently not in his right senses. The Court in discharging the accused said he need not say he left without a stain on his character, for no person believed that such existed. He had himself known Mr Williamson for 37fgyears, and spoke stroDgly of the monstrous by Haying charges like this, and then not appearing to support them. He expressed the utmost sympathy for Mr Williamson. Manukau took out a nice parcel of specimens to-day from a small lode. The Exchange gob up steam to start on Monday for tributers, on a parcel of 18 tons Ashley now retorting. Expect about 20 ounces. No gold returns yet to hand, but deposits will be made this afternoon by the Queen ot Beauty (about 600 ounces), Queen of Maj (about 200), Alburnia (200), City of London (probably labout 700), and other returns also coming to hand.
