(Per Press Telegram Agency.) This day. Destructive Fire.—"Want of "Water-
In,the Heriot Row, a large two-storey dwelling house of wood, was burned at one o'clock this morning. The house was occupied by Mr Swan and a family of six, new arrivals from home. When the fire was first discovered three buckets of water would have extinguished it, but being on a high level of the town, not a drop was to be obtained. Thirty firemen were present, who stood and could only watch the fire. The blaze for forty minutes was terrific. The house' was valued at £700, and was uninsured. Swan's loss of furniture was £300— not covered, aa the policy ha(l been allowed to lapse in the National.
