(Per Press Telegram Agency.) This day. Bishop Redwood's Pastoral Visit. Bishop Eedwood was met this afternoon en route from the West Coast at Yaldhurst, eight miles from Christchurch by a coach and four. All the Catholic clergy in the district and a large number of the laity on horseback and in traps, accompanied His Lordship into town in procession, headed by a brass band, and went round the principal thoroughfares, afterwards meeting at the church. There was a great crowd, ininclucling 400 school children. It is his intention, during his progress through the diocese, to m>tke special collections for a fund to obtain additional clergymen. ?Ashburton Races. '»••'•*— The Ashburton Races were well attended, and the entries were first-class, but the number that started for some events was small owing to the handicaps being made by the same handicappers as at Christchurch, and csnsequently on much the same basis, so that those whose running in Christchurch proved they had no show were scratched. Handicap Hfxrdle, of 25 sovb. and a sweep of £3. Tommy Dodd - 1 Alice Grey - - - 2 Mr Smith's Albatross - 3 Maiden Plate of 20 soys., added to a sweep of £2 for acceptors, 1$ miles, weight for age. Cradock's Muscatel - 1 Waverley - - - 2 James Hay's Kitty Clyde - 3 Five ran. It was a good race, won by a length. Ladiks' Puese of £20 and a sweep of £3, 1^ miles. Kitty Clyde ... 1 Smith's Lady Ellen « - @Four ran. Ashbukton Cvp Handicap of £GO, added to a sweepstrke of £3 for acceptors ; £2 for nomination ; 2 miles.
