GERMANY AND THE BISHOP:-
Prussia has resolved to require that the bishops shall recognise the supremacy of the State over Papal authority, or suffer the penalty of disendowment. It is also intended to re-establish a placit in regard to ecclesiastical documents.

A bill relating to State-aid to religion has been introduced by the Government into the Prussian.Parliament. Its object is to withdraw State endowments from Roman Catholic clergy who refuse to acknowledge the supremacy of the state ; but it contains also a provision that the endowment is to be restored whenever the supremacy of the State shall be acknowledged.
The Government has prohibtted the exportation of horses from Germany.

The Archbishops and twenty-four Bishops have issued an address to the clergy and laity, concerning the course which is being taken by the Government in relation to the Church. They urge the necessity for discipline, charity, and forbearance.
