(From our Specivl Correspondent)
MACKAYTOWN.
This day, noon. The public offices here are all closed as it is a holiday, and claims are protected.
Numerous parties are working, others shifting their camps back into the bush from Mackaytown.
I notice the shareholders of the All Nationsjclaim No. 1, north of the prospectors, are taking bellows, powder, and fuse to proceed to commence work.
The Prospectors have not yet reached the reef. Great dissatisfaction is felt at the slow manner in which they progress.
It is understood there is some misunderstanding between Smith and Coleman and Thorpe's party, relative to the terms of amalgamation.
Most of those not working in the bush have gone to Paeroa to see the races to come off there.
Mackaytown is very dull,
Mr Mackay is holding a meeting with the natives at Te Moananui settlement, to obtain the remaining signatures to the schedule. There is some feeling amongi-t some of the natives against signing, chiefly the Kiriweras ; but this will not doubtless be overcome to-day.
