It appears from the latest Sydney papers that the A. S N. Company have determined after all to open a monthly steam service with Fiji. The s.s. James Patcrson was advertised to sail for Levuka on the 25th ult, this being the opening of the line.

The s.s. Hero is announced to leave for Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The A. S. P. Company's ss. Southern Cross arrived at the Thames from Napier yesterday. She brines the following passengers : Mr and Master Kennedy, Messrs Canning, Caldwell, Kemp, Heslop, and McCormick.

The Stanley Castle, which sailed for New York yesterday, is the first vessel for a long while which has succeeded in discharging one cargo, loading another, and getting away within a month.

Messrs. Brain and Bishop have now all but completed their contract for the repair of the Emu. The vessel has now been rigged as a barquentine, and it is generally thought that she has been improved by the change.

Since the mainmast was stepped the work on board the Condoren has gone on apace. Nearly all the masts and spars are now set up, and the ship presents a smart appearance. To ensure the work being done satisfactorily, Mr. Gouk has engaged Captain Nearing to superintend.

The s.s. Pretty Jane sailed for rGisborne and Napier to-day. The Ryno cleared out to-day with a general cargo for Botumah. Mr H. B. Sterndale is a passenger.

The schooner Mary Melville arrived at JNapier yesterday.
