Mr Smyth, Madame Goddard's agent, is on his way to Auckland per Phoebe to make arrangements for giving concerts there. At her opening concert last night in Christchurch hundreds of people were turned from the door.
Mr Allen's English Opera Company is trying Timaru. The next "show" of any consequence likely to visit New Zealand is the Rev. Charles Clark, as preacher, lecturer, orator, and humourist. He is a perfect pulpit pet. The Wellington people are getting a little excited about their water supply, which is said to be running short. It is used for all sorts of purposes, from watering streets to running every variety of machinery. The Fost condemns the action of Mr. Passmore regarding the railway employes, and says if permitted to carry out such a system of economy in Auckland he must not try it here. Mr. Moorhouse addressed a meeting last night, and made a capital speech, which produced an exceedingly favourable impression as a candidate for the Mayoralty. The Strathnaver case was remanded again yesterday. It is understood that the City Council have agreed to buy the reclaimed land from the Provincial Government.
