MOVEMENTS OF TAWHIAO,
GREAT MORTALITY AMONG
KINGITE CHILDREN,
ALEXANDRA
(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Maori news scarce. Trying to find somedag to eat, and preventing the pheasants om destroying their com crops keeps them iaUy employed. They will, however, soon lave plenty of potatoes, when talk will again lie the order of the day.
Already some dozen of Te Kuti natives «c down country invitiDg their friends to a meeting, to be held there in March next.
Tawhiao has been rusticating for some time past at Kawhia. He is now on his way retarning, and is expected at Pekanui near here to day.
There is great mortalily just now amongst the native children. It appears to be a kind of low fever. When taken with it they refuse all sustenance, so there are few recoveries.
