DOMAIN BOARD.—This Day.
The usual monthly meeting of the Domain Board was held to-day at noon. Present: — His Worship the Mayor (in tbe chair), Messrs. Fenton, Mitford, and Heale.
A letter was read from the District Engineer, urging the Board to complete the fence between the Hospital and Domain as speedily as possible.
The secretary was requested to reply that tbe Board was waiting for the decision as to the site of tbe new Hospital, or it would have received their attention before.
A letter was read from Mr. Baird, seedsman, of Victoria-street, making an offer for a lease of certain ground for the purpose of making a nursery, and agreeing to keep tbe said ground and entrance in good repair. After some discussion upon Mr Baird's offer, it was agreed "That Mr Baird be allowed to have the ground for three years, certain at a yearly rental of £17 10s, and afterwards on a lease, of twelve years, including a clause empowering tbe Board to cancel tbe term at six months' notice, if required by tbe Board for their special use; one year's rent to be given to Mr Baird in compensation.
A letter was read from Mr. Rice on behalf of tbe Public Building Commissioners, asking for a piece of land between the Domain and Hospital, for which they would receive another piece of equal value. The matter was referred to ths sub-com-mittee, Messrs Fenton and Brett, for arrangement. The Mayor announced that he had received a letter from Mr Brett, apologising his absence owing to pressure of business, ACCOUNTS. The monthly accounts were brought up and ordered to be paid. This was all the business.
