GAZING AT THE COMET.
A young Albany (Oregon) couple were out on a door-step on Gospel Ridge, late on Sunday night, looking at the comet, visible in the northern heavens. At least it was evident the yooung lady wanted to see the comet, because she was overheard to tell the young gent to "keep his face out of the way so that she could see the comet!" Then there was a noise like the sudden drrwing of a horse's hoof out of the stiff mud, and then—and then—well, the old man thrust his head out of the front door of that house, and the young astronomers turned their backs to each oth-t and began counting the -stars aloud with great vehemence. The old man told them that the supherodial mass which they had been so dilligently contemplating ou the ethereal dome, scarcely demanded any more of their uuited attention that evening, and the young man would veiy much oblige him by peregrinating in the direction ofhis own local habitation at that immediate period of time, or he would enable him to stars with more multitudinosity. The young mandid't further wait upon the order of "getttn'," but "got" at once.
