NAPIER,
(From our own Correspondent.)
This day,
There are now 3000 bales of wool awaiting shipment at Port Ahuriri. The William Cundell will be .he first ship. She will probably sail in a fortnight. The Wool crop is estimated at 10,000 bales. The season is a fortnight earlier this year. Four ships are chartered to load wool here, the William Cundell, Helen Denny, Queen Bee, and Celestial Queen. Rain has fallen, but not enough. We are anxiously awaiting a proclamation by the Governor declaring Napier a Borough under the Corporations Act. An action has been commenced by Lydia Phillips, an immigrant by the Bebington, against the captain and surgeon of that ship. Damages laid at £500. The requisite notice was served yesterday. The Star of the South left Wellington for Napier at 7.30 last night, and is advertised to leave Napier for Auckland at 10 a.m. on Monday. The schooner Atlantic sailed for the Bay of Islands last night. The Start, cutter, leaves for Mercury Bay tonight. John Hall ofdeer in oharge of the telegraph has been promoted to the head office in Wellington. Mr A. R. Eva, succeeds him.
