PROVINCIAL DIFFICULTIES IN WELLINGTON.
WELLINGTON.
(From our own Correspondent.) This day. A hitch has occurred regarding the Thorndon reclamation. The contractor has been unable lo get the usual advances upon the work performed, not because of the want of money in the Provincial chest—for there is plenty. It appears that the hitch is a legal one j the auditor declines to certify if payments are made, on the grounds that the Appropriation Act does not sanction those particular payments required. The local loan society was prepared to advance all the funds necessary if required, but owing to £.n informality the offer is useless. It also appears that there is a flaw in the Crown grant, and the Superintendent is not able to give a valid title to land if sold. Operations on the reclamation are likely to be hung up.
